"I had a dream that I met a girl in a dying world.

It was all coming apart.  Hairline cracks in reality
widened to yawning chasms.  Everything was
going dark and light all at once, and there was a
sound like breaking waves rising into a piercing
scream at the edge of hearing.  I knew we didn't
have long together.

She grabbed me and spoke a stream of numbers
into my ear.  Then it all went away.

I woke up.  The memory of the apocalypse faded
to mere fancy, but the numbers burned bright in
my mind.  I wrote them down right away.

They were coordinates.  A place and a time, neither
one too far away.

What else could I do?  When the day came, I went
to the spot and waited."

". . .And?"

"It turns out wanting something doesn't make it real."

in the new light
of a golden morning room
you loved me then
i held you there
awash in your perfume

in the halflight
of a grey and mourning room
i loved you then
you left me there
distraught, alone, and hewn

Paper Boats

sit on a train, reading a book
same damn planet every time i look
try to relax and slow my heartbeat
only works when i’m dead asleep
been thinking and drinking all over the town
must be gearing up for some kind of melt-down
all i am is a body floating down-wind
what’s wrong?
nothing
are you sure nothing’s wrong?
yeah
but you’re sad about something
yeah
so tell me what
i don’t know
i can’t tell you
all i am is a body floating down-wind
as the express train passes the local
it moves by just like a paper boat
although it weighs a million pounds
i swear it almost seems to float
and as we pass by each other
our heads all full of bother
we can’t look, we can’t stop
we can’t think, we can’t stop
because we’re stuck in our own paths
and it’s the way it always lasts
but i need something more from you

For My Democrat Friends:
Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes
for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress,
non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday,
practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion
of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the
religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice
not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a
fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated
recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2007, but
not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose
contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that
America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America
in the Western Hemisphere . Also, this wish is made without regard to the
race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual
preference of the wishee.
By accepting these greetings, you are accepting the aforementioned
terms as stated. This greeting is not subject to clarification or
withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original
greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of
the wishes for herself/himself/others, and is void where prohibited by law
and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is
warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good
tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a subsequent
holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to
replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion
of the wisher.

For My Republican Friends:
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Politics, etc.

this just in:

Aaron Weston currently may, or may not, be
beginning to lean towards a Libertarian way
of thinking.  I know what you're saying.  Don't
worry about it.  Less government is better.
Trust me.  To illustrate, I found this nice little
political cartoon (isn't it funny how true they
can be sometimes?) that nicely supports my
thoughts on the matter:

And there you have it, folks.
Have a nice day.
